Nicky Petito knows how to make Spike Lee laugh.
The New Jersey-based comedian, 24, caught the attention of Oscar winner Lee after he congratulated him with a Danny Aiello impersonation. Lee, 61, took home his first Academy Award this year for Best Adapted Screenplay for “BlacKkKlansman.”
“Spike Lee shared my video and gave me a lot of high praise for it,” Petito told Page Six on Friday. “He said [via Instagram comments on the video that] he watched it 10 times and he loved it. He said this was the most creative and funny thing that he’s seen in a long, long, long time and that that meant a lot to me, especially because he just won an Oscar. He shared that post two days later and the odds of him seeing that are like one in a million.”
Now, Petito has his sights set on a project that’s more in tune with his Italian-American roots.
“I have this big, big following of ‘Sopranos’ fans that all want to see me in ‘The Many Saints of Newark’ and I know my family would be very proud of me,” he said of the “Sopranos” prequel movie. “I know I would fit the movie perfectly and it’s a five-minute walk from my house.”
